    Color Game

SELF

SELF is a game engine for multiple players and guided by a computer. SELF seduces players in surprising ways to dance / become dancers.

How does it work?

On a field of 4m x 3m 2 to 4 people can play at the same time. Every player wears a coloured cap (red, blue, green, yellow). On a screen next to the play area you see a coloured dot in your colour, you can move this dot by moving on the play area. A computer voice explains the rules of the game and then it’s a go! Do you manage to win before the end of the countdown? Are you focused on competition or on playing as a team? Are you a strategic player? Of do you trust the power of your agility and diversity in movement ? Two things make SELF a lot of fun:

As a player you are immediately taken by the fun of playing, you lose yourself in trying to win. Without thinking what it looks like you become physically involved in the game. For the spectators it is a lot of fun to watch the pure joy of playing and the improvised interactions between the players. It appeals to our satisfaction levels to see people play and have fun.

SELF is developed as a tool to get non-dancers to move like dancers by a computer. SELF is created from of a subsidized research by Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst and Dansmakers Amsterdam.
